The study of the figure of the legendary basket chieftain of Zaporizhzhya Sich, Ivan Sirko (1605(?)–1680), an outstanding fighter against foreign invaders, whose fame spread far beyond the borders of Ukraine, was silenced, falsified, and banned both during the tsarist and chieftain times. In this edition, the author, relying on a wide range of sources found for more than 30 years in the archives of Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Germany, scientific works and articles of other historians, tries to fill the gap in Ukrainian historiography, depicting the life and activities of Ivan Sirko as fully as possible. The book is intended for scientists, politicians, teachers and students, as well as anyone interested in the history of Ukraine.
