This book explores the life and legacy of one of the most prominent, enigmatic, and controversial figures in Ukrainian history — Prince Volodymyr the Great of Kyiv (c. 960–1015). His biography is presented against the backdrop of the development of medieval Ukrainian statehood. It was Volodymyr who became the founder of the first centralized Ukrainian state, strengthening it from within and asserting it on the international stage. By introducing Christianity, Volodymyr did more than carry out a religious reform — he brought Ukraine into the circle of Christian states and made a deliberate choice in favor of Europe.
The book is intended for a broad audience — anyone interested in the history of medieval Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
