Short Ukrainian Regional Chronicles

The Book “Short Ukrainian Regional Chronicles” is the first in the history of Ukrainian historiography to gather under one cover a series of historical records—chronicles, minor annals, compilations, and registers—compiled between the 16th and 19th centuries in both prominent cultural centers of Ukraine and in various scattered regions. For this reason, they are referred to as regional chronicles.

Some of the historical material was borrowed by the compilers from larger chronicle collections, while other parts were original contributions. The identities of the authors range from known historical figures to anonymous contributors.

Thus, the book serves as a unique composite history of Ukraine, formed from diverse sources. This makes it a valuable resource—rich in factual variety—for understanding the country’s multifaceted past.
