This book was written at the beginning of the 20th century and is dedicated to the events of 300 years ago - a turbulent and tragic period in the history of the Cossack state before its final absorption by the empire. Unfortunately, the events described by the author are based on a problem that is timeless for our country — the Russian Empire in any of its guises cannot come to terms with an independent Ukrainian state and cannot see its existence without Ukrainian lands. The thoughts of Ivan Dzhydzhora and the conclusions drawn by him are extremely relevant today, when Ukraine is facing the greatest challenges since independence.
