The book presents eleven biographies of hetmans who were military and political leaders of Ukraine in the 17th-18th centuries. By getting acquainted with their fate, the reader will be able to discover little-known and forgotten pages of Ukrainian history. Glory and tragedy, courage and treachery, outstanding talent and patronage of fortune were strangely intertwined in the lives of these people. They were very different, and each of them had to leave their mark in the history of the Ukrainian Hetmanship. Remembering them, we better understand that difficult, contradictory, but heroic time, wrapped in the halo of romance.
